Trusted traveler programs and numbers
A Known Traveler Number (KTN) is a unique number issued by TSA or Customs and Border Protection that identifies you in a trusted traveler program. TSA PreCheck numbers usually start with TT, and Global Entry numbers are nine digits. The KTN is printed on the Global Entry card, the PreCheck approval letter, the NEXUS or SENTRI card, and is available in your Trusted Traveler Programs account at ttp.dhs.gov. TSA PreCheck costs 78 USD for 5 years if you apply online or in person with the standard enrollment, and Global Entry costs 120 USD for 5 years and includes PreCheck. Children age 12 and under can use the PreCheck lane when traveling with a parent or guardian who has it.

Adding the number to a trip
Enter the KTN in the field labeled Known Traveler Number or TSA PreCheck on your airline reservation, the frequent flyer profile or at check in. Each airline needs it separately. Check that your name and date of birth match exactly what you used on your application. If the boarding pass does not show the PreCheck indicator, contact the airline to add the number. Not all airlines or flights participate, although over 90 airlines take part in PreCheck. The TSA says the program is not guaranteed on every trip, because some travelers are randomly selected for standard screening. TSA also reports that most PreCheck travelers wait less than 10 minutes.
